An open letter from a parent who knows what you are going through…and has the answer.

Dear Parent,

I really do know what you’re going through because I’m probably a lot like you.

Our son was 10 years old and had never been dry at night; we’d spent five long years trying to find a solution and we were desperate.

I hardly need to explain why to you, but we were desperate because as you will know it breaks your heart to see the distress and confusion that bed wetting causes as they get older and it doesn’t stop.  They can’t go on sleepovers or school trips without fear of being caught out (and that doesn’t bear thinking about) and you have the daily fear of their friends finding out and them being teased.

It’s confusing for us too when in every other way they are “normally functioning” children and we can’t help wondering what might be wrong.

The thing is, it affects the whole family.  The constant washing and broken nights are exhausting and exasperating and if you are anything like us, his sister was dry at night when she was 2 years old so it’s hard to not make it a big deal.

And who do you talk to?  Even friends can sound judgmental because they just don’t understand – how can they.  And what if they mention it to their children and your child’s secret is discovered?

Even though there are some high profile people, like the lovely Martin Clunes, who are open about their childhood bedwetting, it still seems to be such a taboo subject.

Lots of parents who phone me tell me that they feel completely alone, as we did.

  • Perhaps, like us, you have tried everything
  • Perhaps, like us, you’ve been to the doctor only to be told, “Don’t worry they’ll grow out of it”
  • Perhaps, like us, you were told that if they don’t grow out of it there are drugs
  • Perhaps, like us, you searched for solutions and got more and more confused with the conflicting advice available
  • Perhaps, like us, you have started to wonder what you might be doing wrong

We waited and waited in vain for him to grow out of it, sporadically trying one thing after another. The list of things we tried is really quite embarrassing (I’ll share it with you later).

The one thing we didn’t try was drugs; we nearly did and then I looked up the side effects. When I saw that one possible side effect is paranoia I decided against it! It’s hard enough growing up with bed wetting without adding paranoia to the mix.

All in all I spent five years trying to find a solution and then found myself paying £2,173 in desperation. Yes, that is not a misprint.  We paid a private clinic overseas to get our son dry.

Yes, we really did.  And I don’t mind admitting that we could not afford to spend that much, but I managed to convince myself that the alternative was just too awful and we couldn’t go on.  So I found the money.

So what was the result of spending £2173?

It WORKED!  Happy Days!

Despite being thrilled that our son was now dry, I was left feeling fed up about parting with so much money and having the process unnecessarily drip-fed to me over many drawn-out months.  I wanted to know more about why the process was working and was disappointed that they couldn’t answer some of my questions.

I was also really angry that I couldn’t find help and advice at home (that worked) so I decided to do some proper research for myself. Luckily, I was well placed to begin this quest for a simple affordable solution.  My psychology degree came in handy when I bought and unravelled all the latest scientific research and I am already the author of two published parenting books.

I am rather ashamed to admit that I put this programme together out of anger, although it made me extremely motivated to do a great job.  I felt like going to the top of a mountain and screaming “WHY DOESN’T EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS?”

Why don’t doctors tell us this?  Do they even know?
Why is everyone so vague about their advice?

Anyway – here’s what I discovered; essentially all the latest research points to one way of curing bedwetting that truly is not difficult, and yet every day thousands of children and their families are needlessly suffering with the misery and embarrassment of wet beds.

And I am proud to say that I have put it together in a comprehensive programme that you will not find elsewhere, and for a price that I hope most people can afford.

(One customer phoned me up recently and said “You may not be able to sail away into the sunset Emma, but you will go straight to Heaven”. It is fair to say that I am rather passionate about sharing this information!)

Having said that, I do want it to be right for you.

Before you even try the programme, please look at the following statements.  This programme has the very best chance of working for you if you can answer YES to the following statements:

  • My child is at least six years old
  • My child has never been dry at night

or

  • My child has only ever been dry for a few nights at a time

or

  • My child consistently wets the bed 3 or more nights a week
  • My child has good bladder and bowel control in the day
  • Sometimes my child “forgets” that they need the loo until the last minute and has to dash.
  • My child can sleep right through the wetting and be difficult to wake up

If your child has more serious day-time symptoms too, then it is important to see a doctor to rule out medical problems.

Before I go on, I said that we tried everything before we succeeded; compare what you’ve tried already with my list!

We tried:

  • Lifting him when we came to bed
  • Night-time alarm (but not properly it turns out)
  • Night-time pants
  • No night-time pants
  • Star charts
  • Restricting fluids after a certain time
  • Not restricting fluids
  • Restricting certain types of fluids
  • Testing his diet
  • Hypnosis
  • Homeopathy
  • Cranial osteopathy
  • Kinesiology
  • Past life regression! (We actually had a couple of dry nights after this one!)

And, as you know, none of these methods worked. (I explain why they don’t work in the programme.)

So you can see that we truly do fall into the category of ‘people who try anything’ (apart from drugs).

While I’m on the subject of drugs, I think it is absolutely wrong that parents are offered drugs (that even doctors agree don’t have a good success rate) before they try a behavioural approach (which has a very good success rate). But of course you know why we are not given behavioural solutions straight away – they take time to explain and need good support and co-operation from parents. There may be parents who don’t want to support their children and make a bit of an effort to get rid of this horrible problem, but I suspect that if you are still with me, you are not one of them.

This is not a quick fix, and if you stick with it, your child will be dry forever.

You also need to be aware that in order to be successful you will need to use a bedwetting alarm. You know that we tried an alarm which didn’t work so why am I recommending one now?

What I now know is that although we followed the instructions, we didn’t use it as effectively as we should and we gave up too easily when it didn’t work. I teach you how to use it properly and set it up for success. There are very specific instructions that are essential to follow.

So – yes – you do need a bedwetting alarm in my programme and I have included information about alarms and how to get hold of the right one for you quickly and easily.

Is there a downside to the programme? Yes there is. This is not a quick fix. If you are easily put off by having to be persistent, then this is not for you. You will need to be committed to helping your child, although if you are still reading, you already are. It will mean disturbed nights in the short term for you as well as them. It will take commitment from the whole family to make it work. So if you are not prepared to do that, then don’t buy the “Stop Bed Wetting For Good” system.

If you want a child who is:

  • Freed from the misery of wet beds
  • confident to stay with friends
  • more alert in the mornings
  • ready to engage at school

…then don’t wait another minute. You can start the programme in the next FIVE minutes.

The Stop Bedwetting For Good Programme is downloadable so you can start immediately.

You do not need to wait for it to be delivered; just look out for an email with instructions, straight after you make the purchase.

You really have nothing to lose and your child has everything to gain.

Good Luck! Here’s to a dry future!

It has given him so much more confidence. Thank you again for helping our family.”

Just to let you know last night was two weeks (14 days) dry – Yay!! Took him to the doctor about three weeks ago and mentioned to the doc about what we were doing. She informed me she very much doubted it would work and it was a ‘time’ thing. Well, I think this experience has proved her wrong, yet again. My son goes on camp in early December and is now keen as, whereas before he wanted to stay home. We now have started to stay at friend’s places (who have kids) and go away; you don’t realise how limiting it can be, especially when the kids are so embarrassed by it and don’t want anyone to know. Many thanks for all you information and encouragement. – Esther, New Zealand

Just a final update to let you know that since my last email to you in February Peter has remained dry. He has attended army cadet camp and been on school camp, both with no problems. He was even able to have the top bunk at school camp which he has never been able to do before! The wet nights are a thing of the past now and to be honest we don't even think about it any more, which is amazing. Many thanks for your help and support and of course for offering the programme in the first place. Without it we would still be having a soaked bed every night and for a lad who has just become a teenager that is not a very pleasant thought. It takes perseverance but it works.

- Nichola and a dry and confident Peter! (June 2011)

George has been dry for three weeks now and we are about to try phase 3. I am so grateful to you for this programme and all your advice – I never thought we would get here and it is really exciting to think those bad old days are behind us. Thank you!

- Lowri Story, London, UK

We are all so very happy with your programme; our son has 2 months of completely dry nights and is totally over the moon, so are we. We honestly never thought we would be here ever!! After 13 hard years, he has been to sleep overs, and we are going on holiday to Spain next week (without the nappy pants!!) Yeppeee! I am totally happy to write on your website how fantastic your advice has been and how much support you have given us – you are a star, advising us and supporting us. The doctors were totally useless, telling us to not let him drink after 4pm (how impossible was that) and how was he ever going to learn how to control his bladder! Many many kind regards.

- Mel Paul, Bristol, UK

My son is going so well! He has just turned 7 and used to be drenched most nights. So we started the alarm on 10 May. The first two nights were wet, then we had an “oops”, then we had 4 dry nights, sleeping through the night in a row. I can’t believe how quickly we have got these results. We had an “oops” last night, but it was only a little bit and he was up in a flash to turn the alarm off. We both feel so encouraged. I’m so glad I trawled the internet one more time and found your system! Thank you so much.

- Fleur Baker, Auckland, New Zealand

I would just like to let you know that our daughter has now stopped wetting the bed. She has been dry for about 9 weeks! Thanks for a great programme and for you encouraging emails. We will be starting with our son in the near future and will keep you in touch on his progress.

Chris Gaynor, Banbury, UK

I wanted to write and say thank you. I don’t know if you’ll remember me but I phoned you some weeks ago and got quite distressed about my son's, bedwetting. Well after only about a month and a half we have finished Stage 2 and he is pretty much going through the night and staying dry, without getting up for the loo in the night! Your programme is amazing! We’re so pleased at how quickly my son has progressed. He has even had a sleepover both at home and a friend’s house and he stayed dry. He is also very pleased with himself and feels very grown up not having to wear pull ups. Also, I’m a lot more relaxed about all of it.

We can’t say thank you enough to you and all your hard work in your research and ideas. I feel inspired like you that there are so many parents out there that stress about this and your programme is easy to follow yet effective. It would save us all a of time (and money!) if it was widely recognised. I have also been raving about it to friends that are not worried yet, but beginning to wonder if they should intervene to help their little ones. Everyone I tell is very impressed! I hope you get the recognition you deserve for this and wish you all the best for the future.

- Sarah, Felsted, Essex, UK

It was so lovely to meet you yesterday and to be able to thank you in person for changing my son’s life and therefore inevitably mine, by the Stop Bedwetting For Good programme. Nobody, unless they’ve experienced the utter despair of watching their child struggle to have a dry night, can appreciate how fantastic it is to be cured. To be relieved of the feeling of utter failure is unbelievably wonderful. My son is a different boy now. The bedwetting would permeate all areas of his life (not just the sheets!). No matter how brilliant he was at school or on the football field, he would still have that feeling of being ‘not good enough’ purely because he couldn’t control his bladder at night.

‘Stop Bedwetting for Good’ has completely changed all that. We followed the ‘rules’ to the letter and treated it like a project to complete (hoping in my heart to succeed within 5 months (before his 10th birthday)). He enthusiastically took responsibility of drinking the right amount of liquid and timing to the second how long he could hold it in. I bought an alarm that was quite expensive (but, as he said, he would pay over £1000 to be cured) and therefore unobtrusive and comfortable to sleep with. When there were setbacks (a wet night), instead of feeling a failure, he felt it part of the course which he hadn’t yet completed. When he did complete the course (happily a month before his 10th birthday), he felt he could conquer anything … and so he can!

I cannot speak more highly of the way your teaching approaches this debilitating condition. I cannot thank you enough for your instrumental help in freeing him of the embarrassment and discomfort of being a bedwetter. On a personal note I would also like to thank you for bringing us closer together. Due to the teamwork approach to the problem, he felt strongly that I was with him all the way and with the charts (and chats) gave him daily proof that all I want is for him to be happy. Which is what we all want for all of our children! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I think you’re brilliant!!

With much love, Diana

Thank you for your email, and YES, Theo has pretty much conquered the bed wetting! I have been holding off telling you as I have wanted to wait until I was sure things were really good. It has taken about 6 months to get where we are now and we have had about 9 weeks of dry beds with only 2 accidents! His life has gone from strength to strength and so has mine! We still fill in your form every night, but he has been without the alarm now for a week and so far so good! We are now testing the bladder with a bowl of cereal at night-time and he can manage. I am now tackling my other son who is 6.

The alarm is a complete revelation and I think your book deserves some major recognition. Thank you for all your advice – life is most certainly brighter for us all!

- Emily-Jane Taylor, Northampton, Wiltshire, UK

This is a good news email. Our Jaz is dry EVERY NIGHT. She has been on holidays and had sleepovers for the first time without worrying! Life’s a breeze now! Our program began 30 August 2009 and by 16 December 2009, she was completely dry. She was so happy to have her 11th birthday and be dry. I have recommended your site and method to others – I’m sure you will be hearing from them. Thank you so very much.

- Joce, Jaz and family, Darwin River, Australia

We just wanted to let you know how much your system has helped us and our 7.5 year old son. We have never had a dry night in the last 7 years so when I came across you on the internet I was somewhat doubtful. However, we have been using our alarm and doing exercises for the last two weeks now and we have already had 3 dry nights! We can’t quite believe it, especially as the first few nights felt like we had a new born again.

We know we are not out of the woods yet but we all (including our son) feel excited and delighted with the progress. It’s good to have genuine people selling genuine products. Thanks so much for your advice and support!

- Rebecca Kerner

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are now nearly 3 weeks after finishing the programme with no wet nights. I have been almost too scared to tempt fate by emailing you to say how successful the programme has been for us. My son, Jack, is 6 years old and prior to the treatment we had reached a stage of being lucky if we had one dry night a week. Like many others I had not found the health professionals very supportive with the main advice being to get him to drink more during the day to stretch his bladder and getting him to drink juice rather than milk at bedtime?! All this did was move us from one/two dry nights a week to one/two dry nights a month. Jack, however, did not wake with the wetness and seemed surprisingly to be able to sleep well through it.

We began your programme with a little trepidation expecting to be up and down several times a night for weeks when the alarm went off. As it was, this happened for about 3 nights only before the results became apparent and Jack was sleeping through (although waking earlier than previously) without setting the alarm off at all. We are now all delighted and have fingers crossed that it will last. Jack seems much less tired in the day now; even though the wetness did not wake him before, his quality of sleep seems to have improved. Thank you for your help and advice.

- Helen Stones

Our daughter Rebecca is 10 years old and has had only short periods of dryness. She used to go to sleepovers and stay awake all night but on the last occasion she fell asleep and wet the bed at a friend’s house. I downloaded your system and we read it together. Rebecca has been dry for the last 5 weeks except for 1 night. She has even gone a couple of nights without the alarm. We still need to attempt the final 2 phases of the process, i.e., 2 weeks without the alarm then the late night drinking stage. Nevertheless, life is so much better for all of us and I am sure we have finally beaten this thing – no thanks to the medical profession and all thanks to you. I am now reading your ‘Brilliant Parent’ book in the hope that I can improve my relationship with Rebecca’s 13 year-old brother. Many, many thanks!
